Following last weekend’s draw with San Jose Earthquakes II, St Louis CITY2 are back at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill. to take on Houston Dynamo 2. The match will be played on Saturday, June 4 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CST.
Despite dominating in their last outing against Earthquakes II, CITY2 had to share the points after conceding three minutes after taking the lead. Midfielder Vitor Dias came on after the halftime break and fired the team into the lead, after pouncing on a loose ball in the 18-yard box. Three minutes later, Rodolfo Castro Jr. converted from a well-placed freekick to level the game.
Houston Dynamo 2 currently leads the league with 22 points, winning seven out of their nine games played so far this season. They have scored 17 goals so far, while only giving up eight at the other end. Dynamo 2’s only defeat this season came from Tacoma Defiance, who managed to score four times against Dynamo 2, the most they have conceded in a single game. Earlier in the season, CITY2 earned a hard-fought 4-3 win against Tacoma Defiance, and though Tacoma Defiance threatened with a late comeback, CITY2 was in control for most of the match. Fans can expect a thrilling matchup as the team looks to take down the league leaders who are red hot in league play.
CITY2 midfielder Vitor Dias was on target again in last week’s draw, which now takes his goal count to three this season. The playmaker put in a man of the match performance against Timbers 2 two weeks ago, after a virtuoso display that saw him notching a goal and an assist. Dias will be hoping to continue his run of form, but he and the CITY2 team will need to be clinical in front of goal as they are facing a strong Dynamo 2 defense who will be looking for their sixth clean sheet of the season.
