St. Louis CITY SC Academy midfielder Lorenzo Cornelius has been called up to the U.S. Under-17 Men's Youth National Team for the upcoming CONCACAF U-17 Qualifiers Tournament in Alajuela, Costa Rica from February 3 to February 16. All three of the USA’s group stage matches will take place at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela.
The U-17s will open group play on February 10 against the U.S. Virgin Islands, then face St. Kitts and Nevis on February 12. The team will close out group play on February 15 against Cuba. The winner of each group will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
The U-17 MYNT were runners-up in last year’s edition of the CONCACAF Under-17 championship and won the tournament in 1992, 1998, and 2011. The U-17 MYNT will be seeking their 19th ticket to the U-17 World Cup.
This will be Cornelius’ second call up after earning his first in August where he scored two goals during the Vaclav Jezek Tournament for the U-17s. Cornelius joins Emiliano Chavez, Caden Glover, Miguel Perez, Tyson Pearce, Fritz Volmar, Mykhi Joyner, Owen Jorgensen, Kane Kraus, and Aaron Heard as CITY SC Academy products who have received a national team call-up in the club’s young history.
