Joakim Nilsson made his debut for the club, capping off his night with a header in the 35th minute

St Louis CITY2 returned to CITYPARK after a two-game away trip and put on a show, routing LAFC2 4-2 on Saturday, July 29. After netting three goals in the first half, CITY2 notched another goal in the second half to secure the victory and record their highest single-game goal total at home this season.

CITY2 kept the away side on their back foot early, creating numerous chances in LAFC2’s defensive third. Forward Caden Glover got CITY2 on the board in the 24th minute, splitting two defenders off a pass from midfielder Max Schneider before depositing the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal.

It wasn’t long until CITY2 doubled their advantage, with Schneider lofting a corner kick into the box that defender Joakim Nilsson headed home in the 35th minute. Later in the half, both teams found the back of the net in a one-minute span. Midfielder Isak Jensen blasted an unbelievable cross from distance into the box that midfielder John Klein headed just over the outstretched arms of the LAFC2 keeper, but the away side responded a minute later to cut their deficit back to two.

The second half featured much of the same, with CITY2’s offensive pressure leading to a handful of shots on goal and corner kicks early on. In the 71st minute, Glover scored his second goal of the night, roofing a strike from inside the box. The second-half goal gave the 16-year-old Homegrown the first professional brace of his career.

LAFC2 answered a few minutes later with a goal from Leonardo Flores, but the CITY2 defense stiffened up afterward and kept the visitors off the board for the remainder of the match.

CITY2 picked up their second home win of the season, and it was the fifth time in the team’s last seven home matches that they’ve earned a result.
