John Klein tallied a brace and now has four (4) goals on the season

CITY2 earned two points in the final game of their road trip against LAFC2, drawing the home side 2-2 before securing an extra point in the subsequent shootouts.

Midfielder John Klein wasted no time getting on the scoresheet for a second straight week, burying the feed from midfielder Faysal Bettache on a run into the opponent’s six-yard box in the 5th minute. CITY2 generated another threatening offensive chance off a corner kick in the 25th minute, as Klein settled the ping-ponging ball and sent it on frame from outside the box but was denied by a diving save from LAFC2’s goalkeeper.

Keeping the offensive pressure on, CITY2 tallied a second goal in the 37th minute. Off a pass from midfielder Ezra Armstrong that sliced between multiple defenders and into the opponent’s box, Klein put home his second goal of the day to give CITY2 a 2-0 lead.

CITY2 complemented their strong offensive start with a clean defensive showing in the first half as well. Frequently turning LAFC2 over, CITY2 prevented the home side from creating any dangerous chances in the opening frame, holding their opponents to zero (0) shots on goal.

Coming out of the break, though, LAFC2 worked their way back into the game. After a long shot bounced off the crossbar and deflected off goalkeeper Christian Olivares, the hosts pounced on the loose ball and cut the deficit to a single goal in the 49th minute. CITY2 put together a few attacking runs of their own in the following minutes, but the away side could not connect on any of them. LAFC2 eventually equalized on a header off a corner kick in the 71st minute.

CITY2 rallied after allowing the equalizer, stymying LAFC2’s momentum by clamping down defensively. In second half stoppage time, the visitors set up the best chance by either team to notch the go-ahead goal after serving the ball to Klein for a shot from point-blank range, but an LAFC2 defender recovered just in time to block the strike out of play. In addition to each team picking up a point with the 2-2 draw, CITY2 earned an extra point after winning shootouts 5-3.
