St Louis CITY2 travels to the west coast for a mid-week match against LAFC2 at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, California. The match will kick off at 9:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 10, and the match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
This week’s meeting will be the first-ever matchup between CITY2 and LAFC2, as the latter are playing in their inaugural MLS NEXT Pro campaign. Thus far, the two teams have played three common opponents: Houston Dynamo 2, Whitecaps FC 2 and North Texas SC. LAFC2 went 0-1-2 in those matches and CITY2 went 1-2-0.
Having collected five of a possible six points in their last two matches, CITY2 seemed poised to continue their success against North Texas SC. After a slow start from both teams, CITY2 jumped out to one-goal advantage after midfielder John Klein netted the rebound off a blistering strike from forward Caden Glover in the 40th minute. The tide shifted after halftime, though, as the home side equalized in the 53rd minute and then saw CITY2 midfielder Ezra Armstrong be shown a red card just one minute later. North Texas SC capitalized on their one-man advantage, depositing three more goals over the course of the match to earn a 4-1 victory.
With his goal, Klein now has a team-leading two (2) goals on the season. CITY2 has had success getting into their opponents’ third, creating chances that have led to forty (40) corner kicks, fifth-most in MLS NEXT Pro.
In their last match, LAFC2 dropped a close 1-0 match against Earthquakes II. The team enters the match against CITY2 on a three-game goalless streak. With eleven days between their match with LAFC and the following matchday, CITY2 will look to prevent LAFC2 from collecting their first victory of the season and enter the break with a successful result.
