Looking to follow up their first road win of the season, St Louis CITY2 (2-4-4, 13 points) returns to CITYPARK for a meeting with North Texas SC (4-4-3, 15 points) on Sunday, May 28. The teams will kick off at 5:00 p.m. CT, and the match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
The match will be the second and final regular season contest between the two sides. In the first clash, North Texas SC put on a commanding performance in a 4-1 victory. Midfielder John Klein netted CITY2’s lone goal in a match that saw the away side playing down a man after midfielder Ezra Armstrong received a red card in the 54th minute. Per MLS NEXT Pro rules, Armstrong will serve his one-game suspension this Sunday.
On Thursday, CITY2 took home a 2-1 win over Portland Timbers2. For the second consecutive match, CITY2 found themselves trailing early, with Portland scoring off a free kick in the 5th minute. But just as they did the week prior against Sporting Kansas City II, CITY2 rebounded, scoring two goals in a five-minute span to take the lead. Midfielder Faysal Bettache curled a beautiful ball to the far post to get the scoring started, and then Klein headed in his fourth goal in his last four games to put CITY2 ahead with what would be the game-winning goal.
After a series of tough results in their first five games, collecting just two points after beating Colorado Rapids II in shootouts, CITY2 has found its groove. The team has earned points in three consecutive matches and gone 2-1-2 over their last five matches, winning the shootouts in those two draws to give them 10 points in that span. In home matches this season, CITY2 is 1-2-2 but has secured five of a possible six points in their last two fixtures at CITYPARK.
North Texas SC enters the match after drawing still-unbeaten Colorado Rapids II 3-3 at home. The team has done damage from outside the box, scoring four (4) of their seventeen (17) goals on the year from distance, tied for most in MLS NEXT Pro. On the road this season, North Texas SC is 2-2-1 (7 points).
