CITY SC is coming off a 1-1 draw against FC Juárez but fell 4-1 in the ensuing penalty shootout. With the result against Juárez, CITY SC finished as runner-up in Group West 3 setting up another exciting matchup against Portland Timbers, a team they have already faced this season.

St. Louis is one of eight clubs that did not reach the Knockout Stage in 2023 that advanced to the Round of 32 this year with others being Austin FC, CF Montréal, Colorado Rapids, LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, and Toronto FC.

In the last match, new summer acquisition Simon Becher scored his first goal for CITY SC off corner from Eduard Löwen. Becher’s goal means CITY SC’s last three goals were scored by players signed in the summer window - after Marcel Hartel and Cedric Teuchert scored in the opening Leagues Cup match against FC Dallas.

With the assist, Löwen has recorded 21 goal contributions (eight goals and 13 assists) in 25 matches across all competitions at CITYPARK. St. Louis has a 16-2-3 record when Löwen scores or assists across all competitions.

CITY SC’s record at CITYPARK is now 18-10-8 all-time across all competitions. CITY SC has scored at least three goals in 11 wins at home and has at least two goals in 17 out of 18 wins at home.

St. Louis has already faced the Timbers three times in their young history. Their record stands at 1-1-1 after both teams won the away fixture of the MLS regular season last year. The teams met earlier this season and played to a 0-0 draw at CITYPARK.

The Timbers defeated Club León and Colorado Rapids to finish atop Group West 5 and earn their place in League Cup’s knockout rounds. Portland has outscored Leagues Cup opponents 6-1, seeing five different goal-scorers.
