Academy Recap: St. Louis CITY SC Academy Teams Leaves their Mark in 2025 Generation adidas Cup

St. Louis CITY SC Academy’s U-16 and U-18 teams took part in an eventful week of action in the 2025 Generation adidas Cup, highlighted by the U-18s finishing second in their group to secure a bid into the U-18 Championship Bracket. Both squads faced tough opponents ranging from international teams to MLS Academy’s throughout the tournament.

The U-16s opened play against Portland Timbers U-16s, drawing 1-1 before falling short in the penalty shootout. In their next two matches, the boys fell to New England Revolution U-16s 2-0 but took down Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich U-16s in penalty kicks once again with the winning save coming from goalkeeper Maverick Scott.

The U-18s began group stage play against Philadelphia Union U-18s, falling 2-1. Next, the boys faced Nashville SC’s U-18 team, earning a 2-1 victory. The U-18s wrapped up group stage action with a strong 2-0 win against Liga MX foes Club Necaxa.

After the completion of group stage matches, the U-16s advanced to the premier bracket while the U-18s advanced to the championship bracket.

The U-16s squared off against French side, Toulouse FC with both sides scoring three goals before Toulouse earned the 3-0 shootout victory to move on. The U-18s played Orlando City SC, narrowly falling 1-0. Both teams continued to play in the showcase bracket following their defeats.

The U-16s began showcase play against LAFC’s U-16 squad, earning a 4-2 win with Blake Wilson, Zair Cortez, Jack Hennessy, and Cruz Gonzalez each netting one goal. The following day, the boys earned a 3-1 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC as Chianozie Nwankwo, Dallas Vasquez, Eddie Niles picked up goals. On the final day of play, the boys tied 0-0 against Colorado Rapids.

First, the U-18s played NYCFC U-16s, falling 2-1 but rebounded and earned a 5-3 shootout victory over Real Salt Lake’s U-18s. On the last day of the tournament, the boys faced English Premier League side Leicester City FC, tying 3-3.

All four of St. Louis CITY SC’s Academy teams will resume their spring schedule over the coming weeks with nine games remaining.
