Coming off a big win against Timbers2 last weekend, St Louis CITY2 is ready to carry the momentum into their MLS NEXT Pro matchup against San Jose Earthquakes II. CITY2 will play their final match at Saint Louis University’s Hermann Stadium after traveling across the river to Ralph Korte Stadium for their last outing. The match is scheduled to kick off this Sunday, May 29, at 7:00 p.m. CST.
Last time out, CITY2 ran away with a 3-1 victory against Timbers2 to get their fifth win of the season. The team flew out the gates in the opening minutes, with midfielder Vitor Dias scoring in just the second minute to give his team the lead. After the goal, the team dictated the flow of the match, creating numerous chances as they searched for the second goal before halftime. The team grabbed their second and third goals through inform striker Josh Dolling, whose goal tally is now up to five, one behind the league’s leading goal scorer Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez from Tacoma Defiance. CITY2 will be eager to get another win against a strong Earthquakes II team, who are looking to bounce back from their loss against Sporting KC II.
Earthquakes II, currently sitting in the eighth position in the Western Conference standings, are 3-4-1 in MLS NEXT Pro play. Though they have earned six of their last nine points at home, they have struggled on the road, losing two of their three away games so far this season. They will be eager to improve that stat as they look to snatch a win against CITY2.
CITY2 midfielder Wan Kuzain notched two assists last weekend, taking his tally to three for the season. The playmaker scored both CITY2’s and MLS NEXT Pro’s first goal in history and has been one of the first names on the team sheet this season, starting six out of seven games. Wan Kuzain and company will be hoping they can pick up where they left off last week, as they continue to climb up the Western Conference standings.
