The Club’s U17 & U16 Teams Battle Shattuck-St. Mary’s (Minnesota) in First-ever Home Games
St. Louis CITY SC’s Academy teams take on Shattuck–St. Mary’s (Minnesota) in a home double header on Saturday, September 4. The U16 squad kicks off the action at 12 p.m. CST at Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex Field #1, opening their MLS NEXT season with St. Louis CITY’s first-ever home game. Coming off a thrilling 2-1 win in a friendly against Chicago Fire Academy last weekend, the team is expecting a stern test from an organized Shattuck–St. Mary’s team.
“We expect a tough game against an organized defense,” said David Critchley, St. Louis CITY SC Academy Assistant Coach. “But our focus is less on the opponent and more on how we can continue to implement the principles of our playing style. The boys are extremely excited to play their first game for the club and we want to give our fans something to cheer for.”
Following the U16 game, St. Louis CITY’s U17 team will play game two of their MLS NEXT season against Shattuck–St. Mary’s U17s at 2 p.m. CST. Fresh off a dramatic 4-3 win in their opening game against Chicago Fire Academy, St. Louis CITY U17 is looking to continue their winning form in front of their home fans.
“We played a great match last weekend, but we can’t dwell on that result too much,” explains Luis Swisher, St. Louis CITY Academy Assistant Coach. “I think the boys have done a great job of refocusing their attention on our game this weekend. Our goal is always to play the St. Louis CITY way – pressing and attacking as a unit, regardless of who we play. So as a staff we will be looking to continue that approach in this game.”
Ahead of the first game, St. Louis CITY will have an area reserved for fans and supporters to tailgate, while a St. Louis CITY SC Merch Tent will be set up in the Central Village of Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex. Outside food and beverage are not allowed per Soccer Complex regulations, but both will be available for purchase.
