St. Louis CITY SC Academy’s U-15, U-16 and U-17 teams are heading east for this year’s edition of MLS NEXT Flex. The competition runs from May 10 through May 14 and is being held at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland.
At MLS NEXT Flex, teams will compete to book their spot in the 2024 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs. Each of the four age groups – U-15s, U-16s, U-17s and U-19s – will be comprised by 64 teams and further subdivided into groups of four, with the top seed in each group of four qualifying for the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs.
All three CITY SC Academy teams entering the competition have enjoyed successful runs of form this season. The U-15s are 9-9-3 in regular season action this year and coming off a strong showing at the 2024 Generation adidas Cup, highlighted by a shutout victory against their academy counterparts for Premier League heavyweights Manchester United FC. Meanwhile, the U-16s are an impressive 17-3-4 in regular season contests this season, sitting second in their division in League play and boasting a plus-57 goal difference. The U-17s have also reeled off strong performances this year, posting a 14-4-3 ledger in regular season play and earning signature victories against international powerhouses Flamengo and C.F. Monterrey at Generation adidas Cup last month.
