St. Louis CITY SC Academy midfielder Lorenzo Cornelius has been called up to the U.S. Under-17 Men's Youth National Team for the upcoming Vaclav Jezek Tournament where the USA will face Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The tournament will take place in Hustopeče, Czech Republic, and run from August 30 to September 9.

“Lorenzo’s game has accelerated at an incredible rate over the last 12 months or so,” said Dale Schilly, St. Louis CITY SC Academy Director. “Lorenzo joined our program with a high technical level and a creative flair and has continued to perform against high-level teams. He has a knack for creating chances, and contributing to goals, but has really improved on the ball-recovery side. His inclusion in the USYNT Camp in Czech Republic is well deserved.”

This is the first training camp of the U-17 MYNT cycle, which includes next year’s 2025 Concacaf U-17 Championship and cumulates with the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. Players born on or after January 1, 2008, are age-eligible for next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The callup marks the first-ever for Cornelius amidst an impressive academy season that saw him lead the U-16 team to the 2024 MLS NEXT Cup semifinals. Cornelius is the seventh CITY SC Academy product to receive a national team call-up in the club’s young history, joining Emiliano Chavez, Caden Glover, Miguel Perez, Tyson Pearce, Fritz Volmar and Aaron Heard.
