St Louis CITY2 (11-6-3, 37 points) hits the road to go up north to face Minnesota United FC 2 (5-11-2, 19 points) at National Sports Center Stadium. The match will kick off at 2:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, August 18 and will be streamed on mlsnextpro.com.
CITY2 will look to earn three points on the road on Sunday afternoon after coming back to tie Houston Dynamo 2 1-1 before falling in the penalty shootout on Sunday night.
Houston scored in first half added time but late in the second half, Hosei Kijima notched his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal to tie the match at 1-1. It was just the third time this season that St Louis had a match go to penalty kicks. Houston won on PK’s 4-2, but St Louis earned one point to help them stay in second place of the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings. Ryan Becher and Brendan McSorley both appeared in their 20th match this season which makes them tied for the most appearances on the team in 2024.
St Louis and Minnesota United FC 2 will meet for the second time this season. The first meeting against the Loons was in Minnesota on May 3, ending in a 2-1 win for CITY2. Mykhi Joyner and Wan Kuzain scored to help CITY2 earn three points, and the goal was Kuzain’s first of the season. St Louis is 2-2-2 all time against MNUFC2. CITY2 will face Minnesota once more after this meeting on Sunday, September 15 at CITYPARK.
Minnesota sits in 14th place in MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings and has only won one out of their last 10 matches, with their only victory coming against Colorado Rapids 2. MNUFC2 has a 3-5-2 record at home and has scored 25 goals this season while conceding the second most goals in MLS NEXT Pro play (45).
