St Louis CITY2, the number two seed in MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference will face The Town FC, the three seed in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference Semifinal at CITYPARK on Sunday, October 27. The match will kick off at 4:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
CITY2 earned a comeback win against LAFC2 in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference Quarterfinal at CITYPARK last Sunday. LAFC2 opened the scoring in the first half and held the lead until the 63rd minute when Gabriel Mikina set up a header for Brendan McSorley to tie the match at 1-1. It was not until two minutes left in second half stoppage time that Caden Glover’s individual effort to Mykhi Joyner put CITY2 up 2-1 to advance the team to the next round of the playoffs.
Joyner's game winner made him the youngest player in CITY2 history to score a goal in the playoffs. McSorley has scored a goal in all of his last five starts with CITY2. Mikina earned his first professional assist and Glover picked up his second assist of the season. Christian Olivares earned his first career playoff win. Additionally, CITY2 won their first ever playoff game at CITYPARK. The win against LAFC2 improved St Louis’ playoff record to 3-2-0 all-time.
Sunday’s meeting will be the second time the two teams will face each other in the playoffs. CITY2 will look to avenge last season’s playoff loss to The Town FC who earned a 2-0 victory at CITYPARK. TTFC are on a five-match unbeaten streak but have a road record of 6-6-2.
This season, CITY2 faced TTFC twice with the first meeting occurring on May 26 at CITYPARK which saw Mykhi Joyner score the lone goal from the penalty spot. The teams met again on September 22 at Saint Mary’s Stadium and CITY2 fell 2-0.
Following the Conference Semifinals, the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs will continue the weekend of November 1 with the Conference Finals.
