Match Preview | St Louis CITY2 to Host Austin FC II this Monday at CITYPARK

St Louis CITY2 (13-6-3, 43 points) will close out their two-game homestand against Austin FC II (6-6-10, 31 points) at CITYPARK on Labor Day. The match will kick off at 6:00 p.m. CT on Monday, September 2 and will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

CITY2 is coming off a massive 4-0 win at home against North Texas SC whom they currently sit three points behind in MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings. This was the first win for CITY2 against NTSC since 2022. St Louis was rewarded for their victory by MLS NEXT Pro league officials as they were named MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchweek 24. CITY2 has a three-match regulation unbeaten streak and will look to add another win against Austin FC II who sit in tenth place in Western Conference standings.

Caden Glover began the scoring on Sunday night early in the first half. Mykhi Joyner then added his eleventh goal of the season late in first half stoppage time while Glover notched his first assist this season on the goal. Early in the second half, Brendan McSorley joined in on the scoring with his fourth goal of the season. Joyner tallied another goal to earn the brace and his twelfth goal this season which has him in sole possession of second place in goals scored in MLS NEXT Pro play. Additionally, John Klein picked up two assists on Sunday night.

The win was St Louis’ eighth clean sheet, which ties them with The Town FC for the most clean sheets in MLS NEXT Pro. St Louis improved their home record to 7-2-2.

St Louis and ATX will meet for the third and final time this season. The first meeting was on April 12 at Parmer Field in Austin and ended in a 1-0 win for CITY2 as Brendan McSorley scored the game winner. The second meeting between the teams was a month later on May 12 at CITYPARK and finished with CITY2 winning 2-1. Mykhi Joyner and Wan Kuzain scored to earn three points for St Louis. St Louis is 2-0-2 overall against Austin FC II.

ATX is coming off a 2-1 win against Minnesota United FC 2 on Wednesday night. Austin FC II is 3-0-2 in their five recent matches and are 3-3-5 on the road this season. Austin FC II is coming into Monday’s match with a three-game win streak and in the month of August, ATX went 3-0-2.

Austin FC II has scored 32 goals this season with their offensive help coming from forward CJ Fodrey who leads the team in goals scored with eight. Additionally, forward Bryant Farkarlun is tied for third place in assists in MLS NEXT Pro with six.
