The boys kept the pressure on SKC II through the end of the first half and into the second half. In the 85th minute, captain Gabriel Mikina scored his first goal of the season with a long-distance shot to seal the three points on the day. The result meant CITY2 picked up their third consecutive win and shutout. With the win on Sunday, this year’s squad has matched the record set by CITY2’s 2022 team earning three straight wins to start the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season.
Sunday’s match will be the first meeting between CITY2 and Austin FC II. Austin enters the match with a 1-1-0 record, earning a 4-2 win against Colorado Rapids 2 and falling 1-0 against Minnesota United FC 2. Last season, St Louis won all three of their meetings against ATX, including the final matchup of the season between the two teams on September 2 that clinched a playoff berth for CITY2.
