Match Preview | St Louis CITY2 Hosts North Texas SC at CITYPARK

St Louis CITY2 (12-6-3, 40 points) returns home to CITYPARK for their third and final meeting of the season against North Texas SC (12-3-6, 46 points). The match will kick off at 6:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, August 25 and will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

After picking up three points and their sixth road victory on Sunday afternoon in Blaine, Minnesota, CITY2 will look to win their second consecutive match and inch closer to the top of MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings against first place North Texas SC. CITY2 picked up a 3-0 win against Minnesota United FC 2 last time out. The win snapped a four-match winless streak and marked the seventh clean sheet of the season for St Louis.

The match was scoreless entering halftime until in the second half, Ryan Becher scored his second goal of the season. Mykhi Joyner also earned his tenth goal of the season which ties him for third place in goals scored in MLS NEXT Pro play. In the 87th minute, Caden Glover scored his second goal of the season to secure the win for CITY2. Matteo Kidd marked his first assist of the season, and Hosei Kijima picked up his second.

St Louis and North Texas SC will meet for the third time this season. The first meeting was on March 24 at CITYPARK and ended in a 1-1 draw with NTSC winning on penalty kicks. Kyle Hiebert scored the lone goal for CITY2 during the match. The second meeting between the teams was on July 27 in Arlington and finished with North Texas earning three points. Oscar Benitez scored the only goal for CITY2. St Louis is 2-2-3 overall against North Texas SC.

North Texas SC sits in 1st place in MLS NEXT Pro overall standings and are top of the Western Conference. NTSC has lost one out of their last five games and in their most recent match on Saturday, August 17, NTSC won 4-1 against Houston Dynamo 2.

North Texas has had 13 different goal scorers with forwards Pedro Fonseca and Tarik Scott leading the team with eight goals each. NTSC has marked seven clean sheets this season and is tied with The Town FC for conceding the least number of goals in MLS NEXT Pro (21).
