St Louis CITY2 (15-6-4, 50 points) travels out west to face The Town FC (10-7-8, 42 points) for the second and final meeting of the season. The match will kick off at 5:00 p.m. CT at Saint Mary’s Stadium on Sunday, September 22 and will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
CITY2 tied 2-2 against Minnesota United FC 2 last Sunday night at CITYPARK. Minnesota opened the scoring in the first half, but shortly after the start of the second half, Mykhi Joyner scored his 15th goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1.
Matteo Kidd earned his second assist of the season on the goal. Nearly 20 minutes later, Brendan McSorley extended his scoring streak to four consecutive matches and picked up his seventh goal of the season off a Joyner corner kick. MNUFC2 later tied the match right before second half stoppage time. In the penalty shootout following regulation, Minnesota won 4-2 to earn the extra point.
Despite the tie, CITY2’s unbeaten streak continued to five games as they have been undefeated since August 18. Over that time, CITY2 has scored 15 goals, adding to their season total of 45 goals so far. With just three games left, St Louis has surpassed their point total from both the 2022 and 2023 season with 50 points. CITY2 has won the most games (15) in MLS NEXT Pro play and will look to make it sixteen on Sunday night.
When CITY2 and The Town FC first met earlier in the season, Mykhi Joyner scored the lone goal to earn the 1-0 victory for CITY2. CITY2 is 3-1-2 all-time against The Town FC. On the road this season, CITY2 has won seven games, most recently against Colorado Rapids 2 where the team won 3-1.
At home, The Town FC is 5-1-6 and have scored 25 goals this season. Offensively, TTFC have three players who have scored six goals: Eduardo Blancas Maravilla, Aaron Edwards, and Riley Lynch.
