Match Preview | St Louis CITY2 Heads to Texas to Face Houston Dynamo 2

St Louis CITY2 (11-6-2, 36 points) heads down to Texas to face Houston Dynamo 2 (6-8-5, 24 points) for the third time this season. The match will start at 7:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, August 11 at SaberCats Stadium and will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

St Louis will look to earn their sixth win on the road on Sunday night after falling to Ventura County FC at CITYPARK last Friday.

Matteo Kidd earned his third goal of the season during the match against VCFC. The goal was Kidd’s third in four matches with St Louis since signing with the team on July 3. Brendan McSorley earned his first assist of the season on the goal. Oscar Benitez scored his second career MLS NEXT Pro goal and has now scored in two consecutive matches for CITY2. Additionally, academy player Jayson Castillo played in his first professional game coming off the bench.

CITY2 and Houston Dynamo 2 will meet for the third time this season. The first meeting between the teams was on May 22 at SaberCats Stadium which saw Houston win 2-0. St Louis got the upper hand on the Dynamo Dos on June 16 at CITYPARK winning 1-0. Ryan Becher scored the lone goal in the match which helped CITY2 earn three points. Additionally, Christian Olivares earned his fourth clean sheet with the win. St Louis is 3-3-3 all time against Houston.

Dynamo Dos sit in tenth place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings. The team has scored 29 goals and has also conceded 29 goals. Houston has won three of their last five matches and at home, the Dynamo are 4-4-0. Houston’s most recent match was a 2-1 loss on the road at Colorado Rapids 2 which ended their three-game win streak.

Offensively, Houston Dynamo 2 is led by midfielder Diego Gonzalez who leads the league with eight assists. Gonzalez also leads the league in key passes with 55. Defender Obafemi Awodesu is third in the league in minutes played (1710).
