Last Time Out
CITY battled to a gritty 0-0 draw against the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps. Marcel Hartel found the net in the first half, but the goal was ruled offside. While St. Louis controlled the match and outplayed Vancouver in key stretches, they just couldn’t break the deadlock. CITY’s defense held strong though, allowing just one shot on target against the league’s highest-scoring side. The result marked CITY’s fifth clean sheet of the season and goalkeeper Ben Lundt’s second.
Setting the Tone Defensively
St. Louis kicked off the 2025 MLS season, securing four consecutive clean sheets, a first in the club’s young history. After shutting out the league-leaders and highest scoring team Vancouver, St. Louis is tied with the Whitecaps for conceding the least number of goals (six). The match was the second time this season CITY SC kept their opponents to one shot on goal (previously done on March 1 against San Diego FC). St. Louis is one of four teams with five clean sheets this season. Per Opta, CITY’s five percent (5%) opponent conversion rate is the best in MLS this season
St. Louis CITY SC vs Los Angeles FC
St. Louis is still searching for its first-ever goal and first point against LAFC. Since entering the league in 2023, CITY has yet to break through against the Black and Gold, having been held scoreless in all four previous meetings. Sunday’s matchup offers a fresh opportunity to turn the tide.
Scouting LAFC
LAFC currently sits seventh in the Western Conference with a 4-4-1 record. At home, LAFC have been strong, boasting a 3-1-0 record at BMO Stadium. They come into the weekend following an entertaining 3-3 road draw against the Portland Timbers. Midfielder David Martínez leads the squad with three goals, while Mark Delgado has a team-high three assists.
