Match Preview | St. Louis CITY SC Resumes MLS Play with Matchup Against Portland Timbers

St. Louis CITY SC will resume MLS action when they travel to face Portland Timbers at Providence Park on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Fans can also follow via radio on KYKY (English) and on KXOK 102.9 FM (Spanish).

St. Louis CITY SC is coming off a round of 16 finish in Leagues Cup play posting a 2-1-1 record while averaging two goals per game. Of the 29 MLS teams that played in the tournament, St. Louis was one of four teams (Seattle, Colorado and San Jose) that qualified for the round of 16 after not making it out of the group last season.

Recent signings Marcel Hartel, Cedric Teuchert and Simon Becher all had impressive tournaments, with each player scoring two goals to kickstart their tenure for CITY SC. Indiana Vassilev and Eduard Löwen also recorded goals in the tournament. Löwen finished the tournament with one goal and three assists.

St. Louis’ last win in Leagues Cup came against the Timbers at CITYPARK. The two teams have faced each other four times across all competitions with CITY SC holding the advantage with 2-1-1 record all-time.

In the most recent match, CITY SC defeated the Timbers 3-1 with Teuchert, Hartel and Becher all notching a goal, while Löwen recorded two assists. Löwen has now recorded 10 goal contributions (four goals and six assists) in 18 matches this season. Since the 2023 season, St. Louis is 15-2-2 when Löwen scores or assists in regular season matches.

Prior to facing CITY SC in Leagues Cup play, the Timbers defeated Club León and Colorado Rapids to finish atop Group West 5. In regular season play, the Timbers have a 10-9-6 record with seven of their wins coming at home.

St. Louis’ lone regular season win against Portland Timbers came last year after Jared Stroud and Kyle Hiebert scored to give CITY SC the victory. Five of the nine goals scored in this fixture (all competitions) were scored in the 75th minute or later.
