MatchdayPreview_SEA_4-8

Following their first defeat of the season, St. Louis CITY SC will be looking to bounce back when they travel to face Seattle Sounders on Saturday, April 8 at Lumen Field.  The match is set to kick off at 9:30 p.m. CST and will be televised on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and broadcasted by our radio partners on KYKY Y98.1 FM (English) and KXOK 102.9 FM (Spanish).

In a hard-fought matchup last weekend, St. Louis CITY SC fell 1-0 at home after Minnesota United converted a penalty in the 78th minute. Despite the loss, defender and vice-captain Tim Parker had an impressive performance, leading the match in completed passes (70), accurate passes (85%) and recoveries (15). CITY SC remains atop of the Supporters’ Shield table with 15 points and boasts the best goal difference (+10) in the league.

CITY SC, who currently leads the Western Conference, will put their first-place position on the line against a Seattle Sounders team who are only one point behind them in the standings. St. Louis has won each of its first three road matches as an expansion team, joining Miami Fusion (1998) and Chicago Fire (1998) as one of three expansion teams to record at least three consecutive away wins to start the season. Only two teams have started with five straight away wins in MLS history, Chicago Fire FC (1998) and New York Red Bulls (2022).

CITY SC Designated Players Eduard Löwen (4 assists) and João Klauss (2 goals and 3 assists) have contributed to at least one goal in each of their first three road matches. Both Löwen and Klauss are second in the league in assists and goal scored, respectively. The leaders in both categories play for Seattle Sounders. Seattle’s Léo Chú has provided five assists so far and Jordan Morris has scored eight goals.

Seattle has 13 points from its first six matches of the season (4-1-1), the eighth time in 15 MLS seasons they’ve had at least 10 points after six matches. The Sounders haven't allowed a goal at home this season. The Sounders have lost only one of 10 home matches against expansion sides (W5 D4), a 1-0 loss to LAFC in 2018. LAFC is the only expansion team to defeat the Sounders in the last 10 years.
