A Look at the Last Match

St. Louis CITY SC extended their streak to four consecutive shutouts with a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders at home. This marked their first-ever win over Seattle in five meetings. Eduard Löwen scored the game’s only goal, netting his first of the season with a free kick in the 15th minute. Additionally, goalkeeper Ben Lundt recorded both his first MLS win and clean sheet of his professional career. St. Louis became just the third team in MLS history to open the season with four straight shutouts, joining the 2012 Vancouver Whitecaps and 2007 New York Red Bulls. Henry Kessler and Löwen were both named to the Team of the Matchday.

Chasing History

After securing their fourth consecutive win to start the season, St. Louis CITY SC will aim to make history by becoming the first MLS team to begin a season with five straight clean sheets as they face the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park. If St. Louis can hold Philadelphia scoreless for 68 minutes on Saturday, they will set a new record for the longest shutout streak (by minutes) to start a season, surpassing the 2012 Vancouver Whitecaps’ mark of 427 minutes. Additionally, the team is looking to become the first MLS club to remain undefeated through the first five games in each of their first three seasons.

CITY SC’s No. 10

St. Louis CITY SC’s number 10, Eduard Löwen, scored his first goal of the 2025 campaign in last weekend’s match against Seattle. Löwen made history as the first player to score at the newly renamed Energizer Park, CITY SC’s home. He was also the first St. Louis player to score a home goal in the club’s inaugural season (March 5, 2023, against Charlotte FC). Across 29 regular season matches at home, Löwen has recorded 22 goal contributions—nine goals and 13 assists. Since the 2023 season, St. Louis has an impressive record of 19-3-3 in regular season games when Löwen either scores or provides an assist.

St. Louis CITY SC vs Philadelphia Union

This match marks the first-ever meeting between Philadelphia and St. Louis, though the two clubs share several connections. Philadelphia head coach Bradley Carnell was St. Louis' inaugural head coach, leading the team to a historic 2023 season that ended with a conference regular-season title. Former CITY SC midfielder Indiana Vassilev, who was recently traded to the Union, made 63 regular-season appearances for St. Louis. Additionally, it will also be a reunion for sporting directors Lutz Pfannenstiel and Ernst Tanner, who previously worked together at German Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim.
