Former Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy midfielder Baggio Hušidić joins David Critchley’s staff as an assistant coach
Led by Head Coach David Critchley, St. Louis fans will see new faces on the sideline during the club’s 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season with the addition former Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy midfielder Baggio Hušidić, who joins CITY2 as an assistant coach.
Critchley’s coaching staff for the upcoming season will also include Tim Kelly, who returns as goalkeeper coach, Peter Alston as Performance Coach, Zach Hopkins as head athletic trainer, Nelson Hernandez as equipment manager and Tommy Driscoll, joining as Team Administrator.
“Baggio’s wealth of playing experience, especially in MLS, will be invaluable as we continue to develop our players at CITY2,” said Critchley. “We have an exciting season ahead, and a good group of staff and players who I believe will help us achieve our goals this season."
Drafted 20th overall by Chicago Fire in 2009, Hušidić made his MLS debut later that year and scored his first professional goal in 2010. After a stint with Sweden’s Hammarby IF, he joined LA Galaxy in 2013, winning the 2014 MLS Cup and making 104 appearances. He retired with 154 MLS appearances, 14 goals, and 18 assists. Following his playing career, Hušidić became an assistant coach at St. Mary’s College (2019-2021) and the University of San Francisco (2021-2023). Prior to joining CITY2, Hušidić held roles as assistant coach for the Puerto Rico men’s national team and Academy Director at Lou Fusz Soccer Club.
Kelly, a St. Louis native, joined St. Louis CITY SC in 2021 as the academy's goalkeeper coach and later became CITY2’s goalkeeper coach in 2023. Under Kelly’s leadership CITY2 goalkeepers recorded nine clean sheets in 2024, which was second-best in the league. Kelly previously played professionally for the Kansas City Wizards (1997) and Arizona Sahuaros (1998).
Alston began his career as Director of Sports Performance at ADAPT (2015-2018) before joining the University of Virginia as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for five years. In 2023, Alston joined St. Louis CITY SC as Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach and will now transition to Performance Coach for CITY2 for the upcoming season.
Driscoll started his career as Equipment Manager for U.S. Soccer (2022-2023), then became Team Administrator for the Houston Dynamo Academy in 2023. He played college soccer at IUPUI (2017-2020) before transitioning to coaching as a Graduate Assistant at Eastern Illinois University in 2020.
