St. Louis CITY SC has traded midfielder Eduard Löwen to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for $425,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM), with the potential for an additional $500,000 in conditional GAM if certain performance-based metrics are met.Â
“Edu has meant a lot to this club and to the people of St. Louis,” said Sporting Director Corey Wray. “He was there from the beginning and helped create so many important moments in our history, especially in the team’s historic inaugural season but also in every season since. Edu is beloved by everyone around the club and has earned the respect of our supporters and so many others around the world through his character, strength and resilience. Decisions like this are never easy, but we are incredibly grateful for everything Edu has given to this club and for the player and person he has shown himself to be throughout his time in St. Louis.Â
“As we continue to evolve the roster, we have had a lot of conversations with Edu and ultimately, we felt this was the right time to find a solution that made sense for him and for the club. We’re all rooting for Edu and wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter.” added Wray.Â
Löwen made two appearances for CITY SC’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, St Louis CITY2, before making his first-team debut in the club’s inaugural MLS match against Austin FC on Feb. 25, 2023. The German midfielder played an important role throughout CITY SC’s historic inaugural MLS campaign, recording six goals and a team-leading 17 assists. His performances earned him a place among the three finalists for the 2023 MLS Newcomer of the Year award, finishing third in the voting behind Giorgos Giakoumakis and Lionel Messi.Â
Over his CITY SC career, Löwen made 103 appearances across all competitions, recording 23 goals and 30 assists. He ranks first in club history in regular-season goal contributions (47 goal contributions in the regular season; 20 goals and 27 assists) and assists (27).Â
