ST. LOUIS (June 16, 2023) – St. Louis CITY SC has signed Max Schneider on a short-term loan agreement from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team St Louis CITY2. Schneider will be available for Saturday’s MLS match against Nashville SC at 7:30 p.m. CT at Geodis Park.
Schneider, 22, has appeared in all 13 matches for CITY2, having started and played the full 90 minutes in 11 games. The German defensive midfielder recorded the game-winning assist in CITY2’s 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps2 on April 30.
Schneider came through the academy of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany before moving to the United States to play college soccer at Marshall University. He featured in 52 matches over his three-year tenure for Marshall. Schneider’s impressive career at Marshall University saw him earn All-Conference honors his freshman and sophomore year as he played a key role in the team’s College Cup National Championship win in 2020.
For CITY2 in 2022, Schneider made 21 starts in 23 appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
