St. Louis CITY SC has signed Missouri-native John Klein on a short-term loan agreement from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team St Louis CITY2. Klein will be available for Saturday’s MLS match against Sporting KC at 8:30 p.m. CT at CITYPARK.
Klein, 23, has started the first eight games of his professional career with CITY2. In eight matches, the Columbia, Missouri, native has tallied four goals, three of which have come in the last two matches.
Klein was selected by St. Louis CITY SC with the 30th overall pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft following his standout career at Saint Louis University. In 88 total games for the Billikens, Klein recorded 29 goals and 27 assists. Following the 2022 season, he was named Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. His play helped SLU reach the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals in 2021 and the NCAA Tournament Second Round in 2022.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
