Jackson earns his first-ever national team call up
St. Louis CITY SC midfielder AZ Jackson earned his first-ever national team call-up as he was named to the United States Men’s National Team winter camp. Jackson and the USMNT kicks off camp on Monday, January 8 and run through to Tuesday, January 16.
The USMNT winter camp is based in Orlando, Florida and will run for eight days. Following the eight-day training camp, the USMNT will decide on the final roster for their friendly against Slovenia on January 20 at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas. St. Louis CITY SC’s first preseason camp, located in Florida, runs from January 15 through January 26.
Jackson, 22, had a career year in 2023 with many firsts. The New York, New York, native began with his first MLS appearance against San Jose on March 19 and followed up less than two months later with his first senior team start and goal, tallying two goals against Union Omaha in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup on April 26. He then recorded his first MLS regular-season assist on June 4, first MLS regular-season start on June 25 and capped off with his first MLS regular-season goal on July 9.
In his first MLS season, Jackson accrued 31 appearances with 16 starts, three goals and six assists. Prior to arriving in St. Louis, he spent a season with North Carolina FC in USL League One in 2021 and Minnesota United FC’s NEXT Pro side in 2022. Jackson combined for 11 goals and 10 assists with both North Carolina FC and MNUFC2.
