St. Louis CITY SC Homegrown forward Mykhi Joyner has been called up to the U.S. U-19 MYNT camp in Valencia, Spain from October 7-16. The U-19s will face Sweden on October 11 and Japan on October 15 at Oliva Nova Sports Center. This will be the Bloomington, Illinois native’s first ever call up with the United States.
Joyner has had a successful first full year of professional soccer, scoring 15 goals and earning four assists which leads CITY2. The academy product is second in the golden boot race heading into the final matchday of the MLS NEXT Pro season. The forward has set a new single season record in goals scored for CITY2.
“It’s fantastic to see Mykhi recognized for his hard work this season,” said CITY2 Head Coach Bobby Murphy. “His growth on the field has been remarkable, but what truly impresses me is how he has developed into a responsible young man off the field. I have no doubt that these experiences will lead him to even greater successes in the future.”
Joyner earned the midseason MLS NEXT Pro Rising Star award and two Rising Star of the Matchweek awards. Since then, the 18-year-old signed a first-team Homegrown deal and played 45 minutes for the CITY first team in his MLS debut at Seattle Sounders FC on July 17.
Joyner is the eighth CITY SC Academy product to receive a national team call-up in the club’s young history, joining Lorenzo Cornelius, Emiliano Chavez, Caden Glover, Miguel Perez, Tyson Pearce, Fritz Volmar and Aaron Heard.
