The Club Invites Fans to Share Their Favorite STLMade Artists To Help Build the Soundtrack of Matchday in St. Louis
St. Louis CITY SC brings on hometown legend and St. Louis-based artist Muhammad "Mvstermind” Austin as Director of Musical Experience, all part of the club’s vision to provide an inclusive and immersive fan experience that activates all five senses. Sound – driven by music, supporter noise, and all the other beats of matchday – is just as important as everything you see and taste.
Together, STL CITY SC and Mvstermind will enlist the help of fans to curate the sonic experience for game days and beyond during the club’s inaugural season in 2023. This groundbreaking partnership will help provide an experience that is not only representative of the St. Louis region – it will also introduce local artists to fans and elevate the diverse music scene in St. Louis.
Later this summer, Mvstermind will host a workshop alongside the club to inspire fans and gather input that contributes to the stadium sound and accentuates the noise coming from CITY supporters. There will be more to come on how to join the workshop, but fans can get involved today by sharing their favorite emerging STLMade artists at www.stlcitysc.com/music.
“At a broad level, we are creating a fully immersive fan experience that showcases the renaissance happening across our region,” said Chief Experience Officer Matt Sebek.
“Music will be a big part of our matchday experience. Collaborating with a local artist like Mvstermind ensures that we’re tapping into the St. Louis music scene and incorporating a diverse mix of genres and artists that are high-energy and pride-inducing — before, during and after matches.”
Mvstermind first began writing music as a teenager and he has been a tastemaker and community leader in the St. Louis music scene ever since. When getting his start, he was able to develop his own distinctive sound while taking inspiration from St. Louis Soul to New York Boom Bap to the dreamy psychedelia of Los Angeles to Dirty South Trunk Rattle. Known in his hometown for his impressive hustle, he has clocked over 30,000 touring miles performed at high-profile events like Loufest, A3C, and SXSW, and shared stages with well-known acts like Chance the Rapper, Lupe Fiasco, Travis Scott, Busta Rhymes and more. He also runs The Gem, an arts incubator located in St. Louis that provides space, tools, opportunity and resources to individual artists. Being exposed to a diverse range of genres has introduced Mvstermind to artists from all backgrounds, which will be reflected in the range of music played during matchday at the stadium.
"After seeing how forward-thinking the club is and how immersed in the community they are, I knew I wanted to be a part of it, so I came to them with this idea of how we could work together to curate the sound of the club,” said Mvstermind. “This is such a cool experience to be able to use soccer as a unifier of our city while incorporating music chosen by St. Louisans. A lot of people don’t realize that St. Louis has an incredible music scene filled with a ton of local talent, and I’m honored to get the chance to pave new routes for what’s possible for these artists.”
