St. Louis CITY SC acquired German goalkeeper Ben Lundt from USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC, the club announced today. Lundt will be signed to a two-year contract through the end of the 2024 MLS regular season with an option for 2025.
“We are excited to bring Ben to St. Louis”, said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. “I saw his quality across the way when he played at the academy level with Hertha BSC before coming to the U.S. He has gained great experience over the last four years to help bolster our goalkeeping group.”
Lundt, 27, has featured at the USL Championship level the last four seasons, two with Louisville City SC and last two with Phoenix Rising FC. The Berlin, Germany, native has accrued 26 shutouts in 74 games over the previous four seasons. In 2022, he had his best year in USL with Phoenix, posting nine clean sheets in 33 matches.
Lundt spent the beginning part of his career as part of the Bertha BSC academy system from 2011 through 2013 before earning a contract with Hertha BSC II on July 1, 2013. Following his academy career, Lundt came over to the U.S. and went to school at University of Akron. Lundt helped Akron reach the NCAA Tournament Semifinals in 2017 and the Finals in 2018.
