Having earned a fourth straight victory and seventh consecutive result their last time out, St Louis CITY2 (5-1-2, 18 points) heads south for a meeting with Houston Dynamo 2 (1-4-2, 6 points) on Wednesday, May 22, aiming to continue their strong run of form. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. CT, with the match streaming on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

The contest will be the first meeting between CITY2 and Dynamo Dos this season. Both matchups last season ended with a 3-1 scoreline, with the away side winning on each occasion. Across four all-time contests, St. Louis is 2-2-0 against Houston.

CITY2 comes into the contest riding a four-game winning streak and seven-match unbeaten streak that has propelled the team to the best points per game pace in MLS NEXT Pro. To reach those marks, the team defeated visiting side Austin FC II in their last match. Mykhi Joyner wasted no time putting St. Louis ahead, scoring in the 2nd minute for his third goal of the season. Austin appeared to have salvaged a draw through a goal late in the second half, but a strike from Wan Kuzain at the death put CITY2 back in front and sealed the home win.

It was the second straight match in which both Joyner and Wan Kuzain got on the scoresheet. No other pair of CITY2 teammates this season has scored in the same game more than once.

A win against Houston would give CITY2 five consecutive wins and tie the longest winning streak in team history, which was set between August 18 and September 17 during the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. The team is also a perfect 3-0-0 on the road this year, meaning a win against Houston would be a team-record four consecutive road victories.

Joyner’s goal against Austin was his team-leading third goal of the season. All three goals have come over the team’s last three matches, including two game-winners (Minnesota United FC 2 and Austin FC II). With a goal against Houston Dynamo 2, Joyner would tie John Klein for the longest consecutive scoring streak in CITY2 history (four matches), which Klein set between July 29 and August 18 last season.

Houston ended a four-match losing streak in their last match, powering home two second-half goals for a comeback victory over Real Monarchs. The match will be the team’s third home contest of the season, with Houston failing to capture points in either of the two previous cases this season. Dynamo Dos’ last home result came in a 0-0 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on August 13, 2023. This year, Stephen Annor and Exon Arzu are tied for the team lead in goals thus far with two apiece.
