St Louis CITY2 hits the road again to continue their strong start to the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season, taking on cross-state rivals Sporting KC II on Friday, March 14, at Children’s Mercy Victory Field at 6:00 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
CITY2 began the 2025 season with a dominant 3-0 win over defending MLS NEXT Pro champions North Texas SC last Sunday. NTX scored an own goal in the 2nd minute to give St Louis the 1-0 lead before Brendan McSorley put CITY2 up 2-0 in the 31st minute off an assist from Ryan Becher. Right before halftime, Miguel Perez earned his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal. St Louis maintained the 3-0 lead throughout the second half and picked up its first three points of the season.
Several milestones were achieved in the season opener for CITY2, as goalkeeper Christian Olivares marked his tenth career MLS NEXT Pro shut out. New signee Jaziel Orozco made his CITY2 debut with the start. Sunday’s win was the second time CITY2 opened the season with a clean sheet. The last time that occurred for the squad was the first ever MLS NEXT Pro match against RNY FC on March 25, 2022. Additionally, head coach David Critchley won his first match as CITY2’s head coach.
Sporting KC II enters Friday’s contest following a 3-1 loss on the road against Houston Dynamo. In the offseason, SKC II brought in new head coach Istvan Urbanyi, as well as many other new player signings. Friday’s match will be the first of two consecutive matches between SKC II and CITY2, as they will play again on Sunday, March 23 at Energizer Park, which will be CITY2’s home opener.
