The moment is here, St. Louis. After being awarded the city’s first MLS team nearly three and a half years ago, St. Louis CITY SC will make its historic MLS debut against Austin FC this Saturday, February 25 at Q2 Stadium. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. On radio, the match will be broadcasted in English on Audacy St. Louis (KYKY Y98.1 FM) and on KXOK 102.9 FM in Spanish.
Led by Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel, St. Louis CITY SC has built a clear sporting philosophy from day one - a high pressing and high intensity game model that is characterized by a humble, hardworking and committed approach. CITY SC’s aggressive, up-tempo style of play has been implemented throughout the club’s player pathway and has already shown continuity and success at the academy level and CITY2, who were MLS NEXT Pro’s Western Conference Champions last season.
Unlike many expansion teams, the club brought on Head Coach Bradley Carnell a year before the inaugural season, providing him the opportunity to introduce the game model to almost half of the current roster who also came in a few months earlier and played in a few games for St Louis CITY2.
St. Louis CITY SC played and tested themselves against six MLS clubs in preseason: Philadelphia Union, Inter Miami, LA Galaxy, Vancouver Whitecaps, New York City FC and Atlanta United. CITY SC will face a strong Austin FC side who, after laying the foundations in their expansion year, enjoyed a successful campaign in year two, finishing second in the Western Conference.
