On the heels of a weekend which saw St. Louis CITY SC Academy teams go a perfect 7-0-0 over seven matches, the boys continued their inspired play in their latest round of action. Across five total matches, the Academy squads combined for a 4-1-0 record over the weekend, with each team playing away from home.
U-15s fall in close contest
After pouring in nine goals across their two matches last weekend, the U-15 team found it difficult to get on the board against stiff competition this time around. Squaring off against Michigan Jaguars, the boys only conceded one goal but were held scoreless for just the third time this season and fell 1-0.
U-16s' outstanding start shows no signs of slowing down
Entering the weekend unbeaten through their first twelve matches (10-0-2), the U-16s maintained their flawless form with two overpowering offensive displays. Beginning their weekend with a bout against Michigan Jaguars on Saturday, the boys punched in four goals. After scoring a hat-trick last weekend, forward Stone Marion kept his lethal form going with a brace against Jaguars. Forward Dube Nwankwo and midfielder Sammy Goldstein also added to their season goal totals in the shutout victory, with Nwankwo now having an Academy-high fourteen (14) goals this season.
Against Vardar the following day, the U-15s' offensive momentum continued. Dominant from the first whistle, the boys put five goals past the Vardar defense. Forward Jojo Adamitis led the team with two goals on the day, complemented by goals from defender Andrew Bertrand, midfielder Brody Mayer and forward Grady Lewis in another shutout win.
U-17s keep rolling with shutout victory
Also facing off against Michigan Jaguars over the weekend, the U-17s pushed their unbeaten streak to three straight games with a 2-0 win. Forward Ryan Dugan and defender Anden Ellis accounted for the team’s two goals during the match.
UPSL grinds out second consecutive win
Looking to follow up their all-time great performance in their 10-0 victory over Jackson Tennessee Boom last weekend, the UPSL team edged Tennessee Tempo in an exciting affair on Saturday, November 11. Having fallen 4-1 to the Tempo earlier this season, the UPSL squad tightened up defensively, allowing them just two goals on the day. Defender Josh Maher, defender Gavin Netzel and forward Edin Clark all found the back of the net to give the boys a 3-2 win.
With his goal, Maher became the sixteenth different goal scorer for the UPSL team this season.
What’s Next?
All four Academy teams will take the pitch in what is each team’s final match of the first half of the season. The U-15s and U-17s will head north for showdowns with their Chicago Fire FC Academy counterparts, while the U-16 team will play away against Sockers FC. The UPSL team will remain in town for a meeting with Tennessee Tempo FC on Sunday, November 19.
